after months of beta testing and 3 Release candidates, Firefox 3.5 will be available for download tomorrow. If you’re already running firefox, simply click “Check for update” under the help menu, and restart. If not, go to getfirefox.com tomorrow and download.

The new firefox is the fastest yet, and is adding support for HTML5. There’s also the new Private Browsing mode which doesn’t save any cookies or passwords.

My favorite twitter clients

leave a comment »

If you haven’t heard about twitter by now, you may well be living under a rock. in a cave. in the ocean. Yeah, twitter’s pretty popular.

Now the web interface might be enough for you, but if you constantly need to have twitter open, without keeping another browser tab open, try one of these desktop clients.

Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 1 available.

leave a comment »

Okay, so many of you still need to update to Jaunty, but in the meantime, Canonical has released the first Alpha of the next release slated for October. The release is going to focus on cloud computing and netbooks. Although this is Alpha 1, the Ubuntu Developer Summit isn’t happing until for a week or so, so nothing is set in stone. The release includes the latest Linux Kernel, and the latest Dev build of the GNOME desktop.  I’ll go install this on my other machine, and hook you up with some screenshots.

One Week with Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope

leave a comment »

I installed Ubuntu Jaunty the day the final was released, and I’ve been loving it.

I also installed KDE, Xfce, and the Ubuntu Studio packages, which effectively give me 4 Operating Systems without having to set up a multi-boot. I’m impressed with the speed, and you can get Open Source programs that can do whatever (if not more) than the proprietary counterparts.

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope up for download.

leave a comment »

Ubuntu 9.04 is up for download. This update features support for the ext4 file system, a new login screen, and the latest versions of KDE, GNOME, and the Linux kernel. If you have some variant of ubuntu installed, you should be able to update through the internet; or burn the ISO onto a disk, and pop it into your computer while it’s turned on. It should detect that the disk has a new distribution release, and ask you if you want to update. Xubuntu was able to update to Ubuntu 9.04 using the second method.

Xubuntu ( a variant designed for lower spec systems using the xfce desktop environment), and Edubuntu (Designed for education) should be updated soon. I downloaded the RC yesterday, does anyone know if it’s any different from the final release?

April Fool’s day roundup

leave a comment »

Those who follow us on twitter (@amazingtechblog), follow my personal twitter (@camtheguitarist), or are friends with me on facebook know how much the internet sucks on April Fool’s day (haha). Here are a few sites I liked on the first of the month

1:Reddigg, HAHA! Reddit redesigned their site to look like the other popular social news site digg (who just released the diggbar). Very funny

2 Warner Bros. Buy Pirate Bay: Here’s one from slashdot. Their story stated that Warner Bros. bought popular torrent tracker the Pirate Bay. Very funny story, I actually fell for it at first (and if you pronounce gullible slowly, it sounds like fried eggs)

3 Think Geek. Tauntaun sleeping bag and squeez bacon. nuff said.

That’s all that I saw. Found one you liked? Hit up the comments for more

How to not be annoying on guitar hero online

leave a comment »

Okay, we’ve probably all played guitar hero once or twice, and probably enjoyed it, but playing online is a whole other beast. Some people are just too annoying for there own good.
1. Don’t play on easy, or medium. Really guys, the majority of people play on expert (myself included) and we really hate getting beat by people who play on easy.
2. Don’t choose dumb songs. That just ruins the fun.
3. Don’t quit mid-song unless you absolutely have to. If you’re getting creamed, at least wait until the song’s over.
